Amy Sullins

Amy Sullins, PhD has lived in Athens, McMinn County, since 1998. Her career spanned 25 years in secondary and higher education, concluding her time teaching at Tennessee Wesleyan University in Athens as Associate Professor of Education. She chooses to devote her volunteer time and efforts with organizations supporting and educating rural children and adolescents.

She was elected to Athens City School Board in 2010 and served until 2022. During her tenure with the board, a new $45 million PK-5th grade school building and athletic complex was funded and constructed, the first new school in Athens since 1971. Amy was also active with legislative advocacy concerning public education in Tennessee.

Amy has served as a board member and President of the McMinn County Education and Community Foundation; along with her husband, Dr. Stuart Sullins, she led United Way of McMinn and Meigs County fundraising campaigns. She currently writes grants for Nourish One Child, a weekend backpack feeding program for children in need in Athens City Schools, and serves on the Athens Council for the Arts Board of Directors. She is also a member of The Febb Burn Society of Women Philanthropists, Tennessee Wesleyan University.

For years, Amy served in numerous volunteer and leadership roles at her children’s schools; she and her husband are now enjoying the empty nest and visiting their sons. Her oldest son George is a 2L at the University of Tennessee College of Law; her middle son Andy plays soccer for the Virginia Tech Hokies and is a junior, and her youngest son Spencer plays football for the University of Memphis Tigers and is a freshman.
